Property Crimes Outnumber Violent Crimes in Las Vegas
If you go by the television show CSI, murderers run rampant through the U.S., especially Las Vegas. Crime scene investigators constantly investigate scenes involving drugs, homicide and sex trafficking. In reality, property crime proves most prevalent.

In the U.S., victims file property crime reports every three seconds, while they file violent crime reports every 22 seconds, according to FBI crime statistics. Property crime occurs 10 times more often than violent crime in the U.S. In the U.S., property crime costs more than 10 million annually in contrast to violent crimes that cost about $1.5 million each year.
Property Crime in Las Vegas
In Las Vegas, 4,087 crimes occurred last year, while 19,543 property crimes occurred. That means property crime occured about five times as often as violent crimes in Las Vegas. The most common illegal activities include larceny-theft, burglary, motor vehicle theft, aggravated assault and robbery.
Frequency of Property Crimes
Larceny-theft tops the list of crimes comprising nearly 60% of all reported crimes. Burglary follows it in prevalence with 18%. Motor vehicle theft accounts for 10% of reported crime. The only violent crimes to make the top five crimes reported are aggravated assault, accounting for only 7%, and robbery, accounting for 3%. Robbery includes muggings, armed robberies of grocery or liquor stores.
